Stamford Downtown's Heights & LightsWhat better way to start the holiday season than with watching Santa rappel down one of Stamford’s tallest buildings? This weekend, you can do just that at Heights & Lights in Stamford Downtown.

Starting at 5 p.m. on Dec. 6, look up 22 stories high on the Landmark Square building and see Santa Claus and his Celebrity Rappelling Elf, Yankees GM Brian Cashman, make their way down the side of this massive structure. Once you’re done cheering on these December daredevils, follow them up Bedford Street over to Latham Park where you and the rest of Santa’s friends will enjoy a fireworks display after the annual lighting of Stamford’s Holiday Tree. The Cast of Lion King Jr. from Saxe Middle School will also be there to get you in the holiday spirit with their music as you sip on free hot cocoa from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation.

This might be the only time you get to see Santa in real life, so you definitely don’t want to miss this high flying adventure in Stamford Downtown. This time of the year can be scary, especially for first-timers trying to navigate the heavy, deal hungry crowds. To help, we provided some tips and tricks to get you through the night safely and with the best deals.

1. Plan your shopping experience
Go in with a plan. Going in to stores without knowing what their sales are or without a plan can cause you stress. Most Black Friday ads can be found online or on a phone App. If you are old fashioned, you can always go out and get the paper Thursday morning and thumb through the deals. Whatever you do, plan where you want to go and have an idea of what you want

Alive@Five 2015 Outdoor Summer Concert Series in Downtown StamfordThe Alive@Five Outdoor Summer Concert Series kicked off on July 9 with a bang as Michael Franti & Spearhead took the stage at Columbus Park in downtown Stamford. This band, which blends hip hop, funk, jazz, rock and anything else to get the people moving, has been captivating audiences for more than 20 years and is just one of the exciting headline performances that will take place during the six-week music festival.

Since 1997, Alive@Five has brought nationally- and internationally-recognized performers to the music lovers of Stamford, Connecticut. With acts like ABBA, The Drifters, Hootie & the Blowfish, Don McLean, Blues Traveler, Third Eye Blind, Foreigner, The Beach Boys and many more, Alive@Five has established itself as one of the best venues to see great live music. This is definitely one event you won’t want to miss!

Alive@Five 2015 will be held Thursday evenings at 5 p.m. and features the following acts:

Local Artists Display New Exhibit near Stamford Apartments

As we get ready to ring in a new year, the Loft Artists Association is gearing up for a new exhibit which will showcase the talent of several local artists. From photography to mixed media, the “2014/13 New Members” show will provide residents of nearby Stamford apartments with the opportunity to appreciate local art at its best.
