Why Begin Your Apartment Hunt Now

Posted On: Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Stamford DowntownWhether it’s your first year in college in a new town or you’re familiar with the area but want to upgrade apartments, it helps to know when you should start looking for the perfect place to call home. Most students begin looking in summer, for a multitude of reasons. However, taking financial situations and availability into consideration, the ending winter months that lead into spring may be the best time to begin your apartment hunt.

In Connecticut, spring can be brief depending on the year so typically March and April are still recognized as winter months. Living in a college town, the apartment and housing market will swell and diminish as students move in and out of town. If you’re looking for an apartment near campus in the months leading up to the beginning of the fall term, you’ll probably be out of luck. Once graduation comes around, heading into summer, there will be more choices and less competition. If you begin searching in the spring months, you’ll be more likely to get a sense of the area, community and apartment you want. Some apartment complexes do month-to-month leases, while others offer yearly leases. In May, many leases end, making it prime time to make your move. (more…)

Winter in the City – Why it’s Refreshing!

Posted On: Tuesday, December 27th, 2016

Winter in the cityStepping outside in the frigid Connecticut air, it may be difficult to remember why winter in the city is something to be thankful for. Besides being ready with all sorts of ice and snow activities, the chilled atmosphere is much more enjoyable for many than a hot, humid and sticky summer day in the crowded streets of downtown. Get to know your surrounding cities when the air is crisp and the twinkling lights create a relaxing, magical feel.

City life comes with distinct odors. While there are fresh flower aromas and whiffs of delicious food on every corner, there are also scents of less appealing matter. In the city, subway platforms can get over 90 degrees in the summer and to beat it all, there is no breeze! With winter in full swing, everyone is a little more insulated in their thick coats and solid boots. Instead of letting the cold temperatures overwhelm you, be thankful that you are saved from the not-so-friendly odors of a big, busy city. (more…)

Weekend Getaway to Cure the Winter Blues

Posted On: Thursday, December 22nd, 2016

FlushingThe cold weather can wreck havoc on our desire to go outdoors. While the snow is inviting, sometimes you just need a break. That’s the perfect time to take a small weekend trip. Downtown Flushing in New York is the perfect getaway for students looking to explore different cultures or embrace their own ethnic background. Flushing is just over 30 miles and about an hour drive, or ride, from Stamford. Best known for its restaurants, bakeries, Asian specialty stores and proximity to major attractions in Queens, downtown Flushing is the perfect weekend getaway.

Downtown Flushing is a large commercial and retail area and is the fourth largest central business district in New York City. While the neighborhood has the feel of an Asian city, there are still numerous ethnic groups that reside there. Many locals describe the city as being a place where they’re able to enjoy the foods of their childhood, but also the freedoms of America. Main Street features Candy Shop USA where wasabi pistachios are sold and a new Bodai vegetarian restaurant that offers a variety of vegan meats from chicken to jellyfish. New World Mall is one of the main attractions within the area and is the largest indoor Asian mall on the east coast. On the upper level of the mall, shoppers will find stores selling groceries, cosmetics, clothing and electronics. On the ground floor, a huge food court is set up where food from all over the world can be found. There are vendors that serve stir-fries, soups, dumplings, bubble teas, hand-pulled noodles and a large variety of fish. (more…)

Weekend Road Trip in Connecticut

Posted On: Thursday, November 17th, 2016

Road TripIn the age of abrasive technology and tight schedules, college students forget the importance of taking time to relax and enjoy their surroundings. They are constantly being shown cultures and territories through a textbook, when the best lens to see the world through is your windshield! Taking a road trip and exploring the historical New England state of Connecticut is the perfect way to get in touch with nature and see places that textbooks cannot do justice. November is the best time to drive the uncrowded back roads and hills of Connecticut to see the peaking color of fall.

The Northeast state of Connecticut is probably the most suburban of all the New England states. There are several large towns and cities, but also many quaint towns and an abundance of fall-foliage scenes. CTBest offers apartments in some of the most picturesque towns. As the first planned city in North America, New Haven offers a variety historical landmarks and attractions. This fall marks the 102nd season that Yale has played football at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, so be sure to make it a top destination to celebrate. (more…)

Pros of Renting: Utility Affordability

Posted On: Friday, July 29th, 2016

utilitiesWhen looking to rent an apartment, utility costs are always an important factor to consider. Different places handle the responsibility of utilities in different ways, and that can be a reason for variations in the costs of renting. In the end, the affordability of utilities is a huge advantage when renting, especially with CTBest Apartments.

One reason the costs of utilities is low when renting is because of the floor plan of the apartment. Apartments are typically more compact, and there is less to heat or cool in the apartment. Large homes take a lot of energy to heat and cool because of all the space, and that, in result, costs more money. Another reason why it costs less to heat and cool an apartment is because oftentimes there are one or more walls adjacent to another apartment. This means the cool or hot weather outside isn’t affecting the temperature of the apartment inside as much. The other apartments act as insulation, and it takes less energy and money to keep the apartment’s temperature consistent. (more…)
