Good News from Stamford Public Schools

Public schools in Stamford received good news at the end of the school year when GE announced that they will contribute an additional $10.4 million, four-year grant from the GE Foundation as part of the GE Foundation Developing Futures in Education program. The extension brings the total GE Foundation contribution to Stanford Public Schools to $25.8 million over seven years.

The Stamford Public School district is the fifth largest school district in Connecticut, with more than 15,000 students and 20 schools. The grant is the largest non-government grant in the districts history and designed to improve student achievement and increase college readiness through comprehensive school, business and community collaboration.

With additional funds going towards education and so many cultural activities going on in the city, Downtown Stamford just continues to be a highly desirable place to live in Connecticut. Pops in the Park Starts July 7th

Residents in Stamford, Connecticut will soon have a reason to celebrate hump day as Purdue Pharma presents Pops in the Park every Wednesday in July in Columbus Park. There will be four outstanding performances on the Heineken Stage throughout the month with Neil Sedaka kicking it off on July 7th at 6:30PM. The music schedule includes the following:

  • JULY 7th- Neil Sedaka
  • JULY 14th- Stamford Symphony Pops
  • JULY 21st- Steve March Torme
  • JULY 28th- Bowzer’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Party

The Pops in the Park festival is extremely convenient for Stamford residents living in Connecticut’s Best Apartments including Hoyt Bedford, Morgan Manor, and The Townhouse.

The price to attend each concert is $5 for adults, children 12 and under are free. If it happens to rain on 7/14, 7/21 , or7/28, the festival will take place in the Palace Theater instead of Columbus Park. However, the Neil Sedaka show on 7/7 is rain or shine in Columbus Park.

International Festival of Art and Ideas Kicks Off in New Haven

The 15th anniversary of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas kicks off in New Haven, Connecticut on Saturday, June 12, 2010. This 15 day festival features hundreds of events throughout New Haven including concerts, art activities, theater programs, dance events, and walking, food, and bike tours.

This year’s festival is themed “Shared Experiences” and is estimated to bring in more than 100,000 visitors from cities and towns around Connecticut, as well as, multiple states and countries as seen in past years. Some of the events require paid admission but most of the events are free.
