Celebrating Chinese New Year in Stamford

Chinese New YearMost people are no doubt familiar with the 12 days of Christmas, repetitive with drummers drumming, pipers piping and a partridge in a pear tree. Less publicized, however, are the 15 days of Chinese New Year, the festival season that stretches from the new moon on New Year’s Day until the full moon on the Lantern Festival. This year, preparations for the New Year begin on January 28th, 2019 and officially begins on February 5th and ends on February 19th.

Celebrating Chinese New Year can feel like a marathon. The holiday involves at least a week of preparation prior to New Year’s Day, followed by two weeks filled with reunions among family and friends, an abundance of delicious food and parties with wishes for a New Year filled with prosperity, joy and good fortune. Rooster. Happy new year 2017.The Chinese New Year, which takes place on January 28, 2017, is the most important traditional holiday in China. Whether you’re a Dragon, Pig or Snake, the Lunar New Year is a fun and exciting holiday for everyone. Each year, decorations are hung, reunion dinners are prepared and fireworks are launched in honor of more than 4,000 years of history.

According to Chinese astrology, the year of one’s birth sign is the unluckiest year in the 12-year cycle. In the year of your sign, fortune in all aspects of life will not be very good. The year 2017 begins the year of the Fire Rooster, meaning people classified as Roosters should take extra precautions this year. (more…)
