Residents of Hamden rental apartments have plenty of ways to enjoy Saint Patrick’s Day

Posted On: Friday, March 16th, 2012
The parades may have passed, but the fun continues.

The Saint Patrick's Day Parades last weekend weren't the only way to enjoy the holiday - lots of fun events this weekend!

While the big Saint Patrick’s Day parades were last weekend, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy and reflect on the Irish holiday if you live in our Seramonte Hamden rental apartments. For instance, while Saint Patrick’s Day is widely celebrated in the United States, few people know much about it.

St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish public holiday celebrated as a national day in honor of Saint Patrick for bringing Christianity to the Irish. In America, it is a secular celebration originally put on by Irish immigrants to honor the homeland and has evolved into a time to enjoy Irish culture in general on March 17. It’s a fun day which has been celebrated on the North American continent since the time of the thirteen colonies. It’s a day marked by feasting, drinking and “the wearing of the green.” Originally, “the wearing of the green” meant to wear a shamrock (pin) on one’s clothing, but this tradition has evolved into wearing green clothing of any kind on that day. The concept of “the wearing of the green” is an anonymously penned Irish street ballad dating back to 1798, in which time wearing a shamrock was a sign of rebellion. (more…)

Back in the Community Dining Room Kitchen

Behind the Scenes at the Branford Community Dining Room

It is well known that the residents of Branford apartment rentals and the Town of Branford as a whole care about each other, and work to support the greater community. An example of this tradition of caring and stewardship is the Community Dining Room (CDR) which has been open to the public since 1985. Its location on 30 Harrison Ave. is shared with other community efforts, The Branford Food Pantry and the Harbor Health Services Clothing Bank.

The CDR is committed to serving the community by feeding the hungry as well as helping with other basic needs, such as promoting public awareness of hunger and overcoming isolation. According to its director, Patricia Kral, it is now approaching 50,000 meals served with approximately 4,000 meals served each month for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even take-out dinners.

Some Christmas Tree Considerations for Our Branford Apartment Rental Residents

Posted On: Monday, December 12th, 2011
Non-natural Xmas Trees are a Great Apartment Option

Artifical Christmas Trees Make the Holidays Bright and Easy!

Residents of Branford apartment rentals who want to show holiday cheer should consider artificial Christmas trees, which were invented in the 1960s. Initially, the aluminum tree was popular, but artificial trees have come a long way since that point in time. They are now made from a fade and crush resistant poly vinyl, and they provide long-term functionality. An artificial tree remains beautiful throughout the holiday season and beyond since it doesn’t shed its needles, leave sticky sap residue, does not require watering and eventually disposal.

Beyond cleaning issues, you might want to consider an artificial tree as it is less likely to be a fire hazard or cause other damage. For the sake of convenience, you may even want to choose a prelit or dazzling fiber optic tree. Of course there are many people who still prefer a real tree, but the artificial alternative is becoming more and more popular for good reason. Another factor attributed to the popularity of an artificial tree is that it is reusable which not only makes it an environmentally sound choice, but an economical one as well. You can certainly find a faux tree in one of the favored classic styles or types such as pine or fir, as well as a number of unique interpretations of the holiday spirit.

Lockwood-Mathews Museum is close to Norwalk Apartments

Norwalk apartments residents should visit the Lockwood-Mathews museum's historical holiday events

Just about a half mile from our Morningside Gardens Norwalk apartments, you’ll find one of the true gems of Norwalk, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum located in Mathews Park. There are plenty of reasons to stop in during the holiday season for both those that have never taken the opportunity to visit and museum enthusiasts.

The museum is a national historic landmark as one of the earliest and most significant Second Empire Style country homes in the United States. It was built by financier and railroad baron LeGrand Lockwood from 1864 to 1868, during and shortly after the Civil War. It was later  the primary residence of Miss Florence Mathews, who kept the home at the peak of lavish civility even throughout the Great Depression. With its 62 rooms, 44,000 square feet and Gilded Age interiors and furniture, it beautifully illustrates the splendor of Victorian Era.

The magnificent Entrance Hall will be decorated by floral designer Danna DiElsiowner of The Silk Touch in Norwalk, CT, using only the finest imported silk for all the floral arrangements. The main holiday event is titled “Grand Victorian Holiday at the Mansion.” It consists of three different exhibits and spaces.
