Living downtown in our Stamford apartment rentals, our residents have any number of options for keeping cool on these hot, hot summer days. Assuming you don’t want to stay indoors and miss all the fun this season, here are a few ideas for keeping your cool.
You already know that we should avoid running our major appliances during the main part of the day (9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.) and that alone will help keep you home cooler. Lower your window blinds on the sunny side of your home to block direct sunlight from heating your apartment all day. Also, it has been proven to be more efficient to leave your air conditioner off while you are at work rather than leave it on low all day while you are away. It should only take 10-20 minutes after you turn it on, to start cooling the air in your home.
But, what about when you are out and about running errands or going out with friends? Dressing in light, looser clothing, wearing a hat and sunglasses and remembering to take a bottle of water with you are standard. But did you know that using mint-scented body scrubs and moisturizer will help you feel cooler? The mint refreshes the skin and gives you a nice cooling sensation. Also don’t eat, just graze. Smaller, more frequent meals help you feel cooler than the larger ones we all got used to this winter.
Once you’re out and about downtown Stamford, there’s tons of places you can go for a few hours to keep cool. How about a movie marathon? C’mon, you know you’ve been dying to see that new Harry Potter movie. Or you could head over to Cove Island for a skating party. Spending the heat of the day zipping around the rink will make you almost welcome the heat when you go outside. You could window shop at the Stamford Town Center mall, and while you’re there, don’t forget to try their newest shop: Gusnova Gelato – you can thank me later.
