Stamford Apartment Residents to Enjoy Fireworks for First Time in Three Years

downtown Stamford apartmentsThis year, residents of Stamford apartments have more than one reason to celebrate the 4th of July. For the first time in three years, the city will have a fireworks display to celebrate Independence Day. In an effort to conserve spending and keep taxes at minimum during the recession, fireworks displays in Stamford have not been funded for the past few years. With their high price tag and lack of necessity, fireworks were one of the first assets to go in this time of financial need.

Stamford’s citizens did not rest well with this news, and began efforts to overturn the cut of the tradition held near and dear to their hearts. A Facebook page was created named “Bring Back Fourth of July Fireworks for Stamford.” The purpose of this page was to “spread the word that the Fourth of July Fireworks in Stamford has been a long tradition that friends and family in Stamford look forward to.”

Back when fireworks were cut from the budget, Mayor Michael Pavia said that he would work to bring back the fireworks when the budget could handle the financial burden and 2013 is the year. He had the city return $50,000 to its budget for a fireworks display and recruited the help of corporate sponsors to reach their funding goal.

This year’s display has a price tag of $80,000 and is sponsored by SL Green Corp, Garden Homes Management Corporation, Fairway Market and O&G Industries. The 26-minute show will be broadcasted live to a score of patriotic music and will be produced by Fireworks by Grucci, a company who has provided fireworks for presidential inaugurations and Olympic Games.

So come out to this year’s Independence Day fireworks display to celebrate the return of the fireworks as we pay tribute to the red, white and blue. The display will take place July 3 at Cummings Park. For more information about the return of fireworks to Stamford, visit here.
