This weekend is Earth Day and residents of our Morningside Gardens Norwalk apartments won’t have to look far to find events and activities to celebrate and help sustain Mother Earth! The Maritime Aquarium in South Norwalk offers hands-on encounters with some truly exotic animals. Sunday, April 22, Animal Embassy will bring their interactive live animal experiences to the aquarium, for a “World Wildlife” event. Join an African bullfrog, a spectacled owl, a Burmese python, a poison dart frog and other amazing animals. This event is included with regular admission to the aquarium.
The Stepping Stones Museum for Children on Water Street in SONO has a live performance featuring Jeff Boyer and his “Attainable Sustainable Energy Show.” Experiments, visual effects, wind and solar power all figure into this “wild and wacky” science show. The kids will also enjoy Earth Day-themed crafts and activities. This wacky, action-packed science show will inspire excitement in renewable energy. “Eco-Man” uses gripping experiments and visual effects to transform wind and solar energy into usable green power.
If you’d rather stay home and kick back on the weekend, there’s still lots you can do to go “green” and help save your little corner of the planet. You can make “sun–tea” by brewing your favorite tea in a large jar or pitcher left out in the sun for several hours. You can also read the local newspaper online to reduce solid waste in landfills and increase cash in your pocket! Remember to take along those canvas tote bags we all bought a few years ago when you go shopping. Paying your bills on line saves, time, gas and stamps. A very simple energy saver is to make sure to turn off lights as you leave a room.
