Let the Holiday Season Begin at the Stamford UBS Parade Spectacular

Stamford ParadeFor many in Stamford, the UBS Parade Spectacular held the weekend before Thanksgiving, marks the start to the holiday season. Lights begin to drape the trees downtown, snowflakes appear in shop windows and more than 300,000 spectators line the streets for a two-hour celebration to begin the holiday season.

The parade, to be held November 18 at noon from Summer to Broad to Atlantic Streets, has grown considerably over the years, from a small one-block party with little crowds to an annual event that rivals the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and brings thousands from across the region. While the Macy’s Day parade is a popular event televised across the world, there’s a warm, at-home feeling in Stamford that you can’t get in New York City.

The 2018 Stamford Downtown Parade spectacular will showcase some of Connecticut’s best marching bands, performers and, of course, everyone’s favorite balloon characters. This is one of the largest helium balloon parades in the country and the biggest family-friendly party in the region. The parade’s special appearances include nearly 60-foot tall Elmo, Shrek, Scooby-Doo and other favorite characters. Stamford’s own Stamford High School Black Knight Marching Band will appear as one of twelve of the best regional marching bands and Santa himself will be participating.

This year, interested guest can get a special backstage look at the parade and watch the giant helium balloons come to life at the Giant Balloon Inflation Party. There will be exciting musical performances, dance performances, holiday characters and a visit from Santa. This event is Saturday, November 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. on Hoyt at Summer Street.
