HuskyTHON’s 18-Hour Dance Marathon to Help Kids

Posted On: Friday, February 17th, 2017

HuskyThonRepresenting a variety of organizations across the UConn campus, thousands of students will gather in Hugh S. Greer Field House at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 18 for an 18-hour weekend-long dance marathon. All year, students have joined teams and organized fundraisers to help raise money for the children and families at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. This marathon serves as the apex for the year’s worth of student-run fundraisers by HuskyTHON.

Students have the option to become a dancer, morale captain, or volunteer for the event. For the people who can’t constantly dance through the night, a “Morale Corner” is set up where the morale captains will be teaching a dance to exhausted students and trying to keep them energized throughout the night. The morale captains will take the floor and dance to a number of hit songs at the top of every hour throughout the event. (more…)

Don’t Let the Winter Months Affect Your Grocery Bill

Posted On: Wednesday, February 1st, 2017

winter grocery shoppingLiving in a colder state, it’s no surprise the household bills tend to spike during the winter months, but why does the cost of groceries seem to rise? The hike in cost is often due to the need to eat richer food in colder months. Here are a few tips on how to save on groceries during the winter months:

Take Advantage of Deals and Coupons

No matter what your preference of supermarket, every one of them will have weekly and monthly sales.  Research what is on sale before you grocery shop and try to base most meals on those items. Meat is often the most expensive item on a grocery bill; grocery stores often have low prices on meat that is close to its sell-by date, so buy it and freeze it to ensure it lasts.  Speaking of frozen food, shop the frozen produce aisle to enjoy healthy food for a cheaper price. Experience Norwalk’s Beaches in the Winter

Posted On: Monday, January 30th, 2017

winter beachAre you snuggled up on the couch dreaming of summer at the beach? While jetting off somewhere warm and sunny is a great way to escape the winter blues, there’s also something special about cold-destination beaches in the wintertime. Norwalk is home to two fantastic beaches, Calf Pasture and Shady Beach, both of which offer dramatic landscapes and winter experiences of a lifetime.

While the beach and town may be a bit quieter in the winter, there are still plenty of restaurants, shops and museums to visit. Even the ocean itself is different during the colder months of the year. There’s no better time to marvel at the breaking waves and enjoy a peaceful sunset. These beaches are often overlooked and yet they’re just as much fun, less crowded and easier to get to than the overly crowded, expensive beaches in New York or New Jersey. (more…)
