Whether it’s your first year in college in a new town or you’re familiar with the area but want to upgrade apartments, it helps to know when you should start looking for the perfect place to call home. Most students begin looking in summer, for a multitude of reasons. However, taking financial situations and availability into consideration, the ending winter months that lead into spring may be the best time to begin your apartment hunt.
In Connecticut, spring can be brief depending on the year so typically March and April are still recognized as winter months. Living in a college town, the apartment and housing market will swell and diminish as students move in and out of town. If you’re looking for an apartment near campus in the months leading up to the beginning of the fall term, you’ll probably be out of luck. Once graduation comes around, heading into summer, there will be more choices and less competition. If you begin searching in the spring months, you’ll be more likely to get a sense of the area, community and apartment you want.
